Technics do not seem to have provided an out clause or possibility to resign for that eventuality - at least none that I know about.

As things currently stand, it looks as though anyone who looks in danger of having that honor forced on him all unwanted, will have to make a very public statement asking people not to vote him into the council. Or send round a mail to everyone stating: "No, absolutely not, I don't want to, don't you dare vote me into the council!"
