The people of Rome expelled the tyrant!

The whims and obsessions of Tarquinius the Proud and his family had tortured the citizens of Rome for all too long. When his son Tarquinius Sextus raped Lucretia, daughter of a Roman governor, the enraged people stood up against the king and forced him to flee. He is said to have found shelter among the Barbarian tribes.

The people gathered on the Forum Romanum swore today in one voice that they never again will allow a king to rule Rome. The times of tyranny are gone forever!

From now on Rome will be ruled by the Senate, the gathering of the patricians of Rome. As equals the Senators will set the destiny of our nation!
The Senators will chose men of their midst to accomplish the goals they set. Those Consuls will hold the supreme power in Rome. Their record will decide their fate after their term.

Long live the People and the Senate of Rome!
Long live the Roman Republic!
