Changing Province Names - Part 2      19.11.2011 18:27:06 --- 6 Months ago
As was done in previous thread I would like to offer couple of suggestions for changing names of some provinces and open them for discusion.

I propose the following changes:

1. Steiermark (151) - Noricum
Steiermark is a name first mentioned in medieval times and comes from the name Steyr, which is a city.
Noricum on the other hand was the name of a province in Roman times. It also geographically roughly fits field 151. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noricum

2. Tauern (150) - Iuvavum
Iuvavum is a name of a city and is of Celtic origin. It was a part of Noricum but geographically rougly fits field 150. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iuvavum

3. Salzburg (149) - Vindelicia
Vindelicia describes a land of pre-Roman era that was inhabited by the Vindelici tribe. It is geographically close to field 149. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vindelicia

Vindelicia would also be a suitable name for Bayern (field 148), so we should decide together which of the two is more fitting. Naturally, in case of field 148, Raurici should express their approval or disapproval of any possible change.

4.Raetia or Rhetia
Depending on the choice under proposal no.3, I would recommend to change the name of either Salzburg (149) or Tirol (132) to Raetia or Rhetia. Rhetia is probably a name of Etruscan origin.

I also include a link to a good source of maps of the ancient world.

All are invited to express their opinion on the matter and/or to offer more proposals.

The reasons for changes have already been much debated in the thread Changing Province names, so there is no particular need to explain them in-depth. The main reason is to have the names of provinces that better suit the period of the game.
