Sigfried can't be described better than "bright, tall and handsome". He don't know to read or write, he is not even aware that he don't know that.
If he wants to know something, like how will be the hunting, the weather or how to interpret a strange dream, he call for the village witch to read the runes. That's all he need to know.

Today was not a day like any other, since the fortified village receive the Svear warriors as guests.
They come from Northern lands with important bussiness.
The village have plenty of food, since the hunting was good in the last days and also a reserve of mead for special occasions like this one.
There are no servants in the tribe for the things they can do better themselves.
According to his rank, it was Sigfried who cut the first parts from the roasted game, keeping for himself and the guests the best parts.He give it to the guests and his friends, throwing over the table the chock of meat to the ones not being in his vicinity. After that he let everybody else to take a portion.

At the first look, he saw the Queen Adelyna in the opposite side of the table, but what could be more important than a good roasted piece of meat?
After a few moments, Sigfried have a second look and her icy eyes put a sort of magic on him, unable to do anything else but looking at her.
In the end, the laughing all over the table manage to wake him up:
- The Queen Adelyna is asking why you staring on her! repeat Alarus, his best friend and companion.
- Ahem... aha... ahem..
Simply the words don't want to come out from his dry throat.
Sigfried realize how silly he may look, but he was unable to speak. Nothing fancy come out of his mind in order to cast out the silence. He badly need to drink something..
As soon as his fingers reach the horn of mead, a brilliant idea hit him:
- Well.. in fact I was thinking..
Another wave of laughs accompany the idea Sigfried "is thinking.."
- I was thinking.. to have a toast in the honor of our guests!
Suddenly silence.. Nobody think to have a toast in the honor of the guests, except Sigfried.
Now that he regain the control, Sigfried stand up and says the first words who came to his mind:
- Two Nations, one heart! I'll drink to that!
Everybody cheers up, saying the magic words and drink bottom up.

"I must talk to her" think Sigfried and move closer to Adelyne

In the next days, not matter how hard Sigfried tried, he didn't manage to make a good impression, even he use every chance to come closer to the Svear Queen.
He usually can understand what the trees in the wind says or can speak to the wild animals, but to charm a woman like Adelyna is far more difficult.
It's not that Sigfried is not used to speak with girls or even be intimate with them, but Adelyna icy eyes let him speechless almost all the time.
Being in such impossible position, Sigfried decide to ask the advice of his good friends, Wolfgar and Alarus.
They was together form childhood, a small gang of young warriors now who use to have fun from everything.
When the evening come, before the big dinner (who is also launch) to be ready, he took the two friends in a separate place and start to confess:
"- Maybe you notice about me and Adelyna.. Well, I could not get to her.. she frozen me with her beautiful icy eyes and I'm just paralyzed, unable to act. Still, I'm unable to act towards her, but I will smash your ugly heads if you don't help me!
I want to marry her and I dunno what to do.. I just don't have the courage to ask her.."

Alarus even filled his Horn with Beer, taking another bite of the roasted goose, when his Archon was speaking he had to snort.

Did I ever told you how me and my Brother Athru and my sister Elaja have been made? No? My Father took his club, went to my mother using it on her head. Good times this have been.

Well, my mother is herding gooses, my father just a fisher, you are Archon. Thats making things difficult. And she is Archon of our brothers, think they will not agree in my fathers mind to take a bride.

Where have the good times gone?

I have only seen her not very long, and not very often. Why don't you take her to a walk? Tell her you have to talk with her about the future, about our brothership. Show her the beautiness to find here, all around us.

Wolfgar could do nothing but laugh after Alarus spoke of his heritage . I don't think clubbing the Svear queen into accepting Sigfried's proposal in marriage will work . In fact there is a good chance we will end up dead afterwards .

He poured some beer into his horn and continued , From what I've learned , women are attracted by three things : power , furs and jewelery . You are our leader , that means you have power , the forests are full of wild animals we could hunt for furs and the amber mines in Pomoran should provide us with jewelery .

Taking a long swig of ale from his horn , Either that or we can go with the club .

I knew that I can count on you, my friends! says Sigfried, with relief.
So many ideas at once, he was a bit confused, but definitely the idea with the club draw his attention more than the other ones.
Shall I hit her in the head with all my force or just half of it? he ask seriously and don't understand why his friends was on the ground, losing their breath laughing.
Maybe it's not a good idea, since I dunno how hard to hit her..
He start thinking to the other proposals:
Hey, I notice Gundrun have such amber jewelry, I will take it and if she say something against, she will meet my club. I must train on after all, I didn't abandon that idea for good!
Wolfgar, I saw you have a nice fur, can I "borrow" from you for a while? I will put on Adelyna shoulders when we walk..
So, furs, jewelry.. and it was something else his friends mention it, but Sigfried could not remember what it was.
I hope it will be sufficient and she will not force me to use the club!
Wish me luck, tonight we will have a walk, one way or another..

Ceres narrowed her eyes at the men.

Yes, this was a change from Rome indeed.

Though a smile tugged at a corner of her lips, a welcome change perhaps. These people were more honest, more raw...and she herself had become more that way, discarding the Roman white robes and cunning words in favour of plain clothing and frequent hunting trips. They had welcomed her with open arms, even though she had been a Roman, a cosmopolitan citizen.

Ceres snorted, tucked away in her corner of the room, watching the others. Women do not desire furs, or jewelry or power, but a few well-placed compliments. Most women that is.

Shaking her head her fellow tribesmen, she muttered fondly: "Uncivilized little barbarians.."

Wolfgar frowned at the thought of giving up his fur cape and if this wasn't an important political matter his words would have been " Over my dead body . " . But he quickly understood the importance and handed Sigfried's his fur cape .

Under one condition , he said smiling . I want permission to hunt in their lands . I've heard tales about white foxes that roam the snowy forests here . It's said that their fur can protect you from the worst blizzards .

With the corner of his eye he spotted Ceres on the other side of the room . Join us ! He said holding up his horn . No reason to stand there alone . The more the merrier after all .

The woman raised an eyebrow at the straw-haired young man, accepting his invitation.

She took a sip of the drink he offered and immediately spit it out.

"That's horrible!"

Not intimidated by the men's laughter, she expertly pulled out a plant from her pouch and squeezed it over the drink. "It makes it better, she explained "...sweeter. I have learned this and other useful handling of herbs when I left Rome. Quite useful, I'll say, especially with this sour drink. Ugh!"

Shrugging off the unwanted attention, Ceres took another horn for Wolfgar and repeated her previous actions. "Good, mhmm?" She smirked.

Permission? Sigfried need a little bit to handle the idea and the term. We don't need any "Permission" to hunt here in the North. You mean share with the village near our hunting camp?
Obviously "Permission" it's not a word at hand for him.
It is nice from your part to think about our Svear brothers, of course we will give them a share.
He talk way to much and now he badly need something to drink. His horn is empty, so he grab the Wolfgar one and drink it all.
Mhmm.. good.. good! says him in appreciation for Ceres. "Isn't her a bit younger for a witch?"

It seems all the advices and the drink was the perfect mixture to help Sigfried. He took Adelyna to a walk and return after some time visibly touched.
Hey, Sigfried, how it was? ask his friends.
Still speechless, he need another drink and a few moments to recover his voice.
Just perfect!
Sigfried sit down, lost in his thoughts about the meeting with Adelyna, but the laughs of his friends wake up him.
